6 Things To Check Out in Houston in 2020
Date: January 3rd, 2020The New Year has finally arrived and our calendars are clamoring for fun things to do around our great city. Luckily for our residents, our Houston high rise keeps you so close to so many great things and our downtown Houston neighborhood is full of fun things to see and do for the whole family. If you don’t know where to kick off your Houston New Year, we’ve started a small list for you below. Check it out and Happy New Year from the OPP team!
Houston’s 6 Things to Check Out in the New Year:
Chevron Houston Marathon: This annual coveted marathon takes place January 19th. Although it’s too late to sign up (it fills up fast here in Houston!), it’s a great event to be a spectator at, and it runs right in front of our Houston high rise. This annual 26.2, 13.1 and 3.1-mile run begins and ends at Downtown’s George R. Brown Convention Center has steadily grown to attract more than 20,000 entrants from around the world and 200,000 spectators. Fun fact: the first Houston Marathon was in 1972 with 113 runners and about twice as many spectators. Join in on the fun – we can’t wait to see which of our OPP residents will run this year!
Houston Astros or Houston Rockets Game: Our residents love being walking distance from some of Houston’s favorite sports teams. If you’re a baseball fan, the Astros season officially kicks off at home on March 26th against the Angels, and of course the Rockets (led by our favorite James Harden!) are still going strong and located directly across the street at the Toyota Center. Grab some friends and go cheer on your home team!
Bayou City Art Festival: Another fun Houston event taking place March 27 – 29, 2020 is one to add to your calendar! The Bayou City Art Festival at Memorial Park kicks off spring as Houston’s premier outdoor fine arts event with 300+ national artists working in 19 artistic media are juried and invited to show and sell their art at this great event. Of course there will be a ton of amazing art, but there will also be entertainment, food vendors, food trucks and much more at this annual event.
Bravery Chef Hall: This isn’t a new Houston hotspot (it goes back to July of 2019), but if you haven’t been yet, start planning your visit now and come hungry! Located near our Houston luxury apartments, this unique food hall has five new eateries and three bars. Bravery Chef Hall has some of downtown Houston’s best food and is located directly across from Market Square Park.
Art Car Parade: One Park Place residents have the best view for one of favorite events of the year where 250,000+ spectators line the streets of downtown’s to catch a glimpse of this parade, which showcases Houston’s most outlandish folk art creations on wheels. The Fruit Mobile, a 1967 Ford station wagon, started the craze in 1986. Truly a sight to see, the parade is produced by the Orange Show Center for Visionary Art. This year’s event takes place April 16 – 19, 2020, so plan accordingly!
Guard and Grace: One of Houston hottest new restaurants is only a few minutes from our Houston high rise. Head to One Allen Center for lunch or dinner, and don’t miss their Houston Social Hour, every Monday – Friday from 3 – 6 p.m with unique offerings like charcuterie boards, sushi, oysters and other light bites paired with tasty wine, cocktails and beer.
